| story |
Madrid 1967: Arthur Lang is a professional actor,
specializing in the hot genre of the spaghetti western.
While on location shooting an Italian western he is unexpectedly
contacted by two mysterious persons who offer him a very peculiar
proposition.
One of the mystery men, Monsieur Bernard from Paris, wants Lang
to impersonate a Mr Owen, a stuffy English gentleman who happens
to be the only man on Earth who knows the combination of an
otherwise impenetrable, space-age bank safe.
The actor is promised a great deal of cash, and he is assured
that it will be an easy assignment.
Lang, against his better judgement, accepts the offer and flies
to Paris in order to substitute Owen in his job as supervisor
of a mammoth diamond collection, that of the elite London firm
known as General Diamond.
Thanks to Lang’s dead-on impersonation of Owen, Bernard
and his men are able to steal a quantity of diamonds.
It is revealed that the operation, a fake robbery, had been
executed in order to demonstrate that the General Diamond security
system is not sufficient, and Monsieur Bernard turns out to
actually be the chief of the British Secret Service!
The President of General Diamond is obliged to admit the imperfection
of the security system, and he reluctantly accepts the presence
of some MI6 agents in his company.
Soon the agents discover strange traces of radioactivity in
the General Diamond vaults, which eventually leads to the conclusion
that there is a high-tech conspiracy being planned against the
jewel firm.
Lang will succeed in solving the mystery and will ultimately
discover that a high-ranking government official is the top
conspirator!
