| After having already rescued on CD the rare OST score by Francesco
De Masi for the western Per Un Pugno Nell'Occhio, Digitmovies
is now glad to present on a double CD set two complete OSTs
from the two comedy western movies Due Mafiosi Nel Far West
and I 2 Sergenti Del Generale Custer with the cool comedy pair
Franco Franchi e Ciccio Ingrassia, stars of a hundred funny
movies during the '60s and the '70s and scored by great names
like Morricone, De Masi, Fabor, Lavagnino, Umiliani, Savina,
Gori, Ferrio, Pregadio, Baxter.
Due Mafiosi Nel Far West was directed by Giorgio Simonelli
and did also star Aroldo Tieri, Aldo Giuffrè, Hélène
Chanel, Fernando Sancho.
The time is the late 19th century:
The two Sicilians Franco and Ciccio are paying off their punishment
in jail for having stolen two mules.
Soon after having been set free, they leave for Texas to rescue
a gold mine owned by their grandfathers which is now in the
bandits' hand.
I 2 Sergenti Del Generale Custer was directed also by Giorgio
Simonelli and did star Moira Orfei, Margaret Lee, Ernesto
Calindri, Aroldo Tieri, Riccardo Garrone and Fernando Sancho.
Franco and Ciccio La Pera are two Yankee soldiers of Sicilian
roots who, during the American Secession War, are accused
of desertion and condemned to death.
A secret plan of the army saves their lives, but there are
still many troubles ahead for the two.
Never released before, both scores come directly from the
mono mastertapes archived at RCA.
Disc 1 Due Mafiosi Nel Far West is scored by Giorgio Fabor
(Fabio Borgazzi), one of the most noted Italian musicians,
famous writer of songs, but also of soundtracks for the Italian
Cinema such as Poveri Ma Belli by Dino Risi.
This OST is very varied and based on two main themes:
Fuoco Nel Cielo a brilliant western-flavoured motif performed
by Giancarlo Guardabassi which is introduced in Titoli Di
Testa (Tr. 1) and reprised in Tr. 4, Tr. 14, Tr. 18, Tr. 22,
Tr. 25, Tr. 27 and Due Mafiosi Nel Far West (Tr. 28) performed
by Ciccio & Franco themselves and then played in instrumental
versions (Tr. 7, Tr. 8, Tr. 10, Tr. 13, Tr. 23).
The OST includes saloon music for solo piano (Tr. 5,Tr. 15),
flamenco themes for electric solo guitar (Tr. 9, Tr. 11, Tr.
16) and dramatic orchestral music (Tr. 12, Tr. 17, Tr. 20,
Tr. 22, Tr. 24).
Disc 2 I 2 Sergenti Del Generale Custer features the music
score by Angelo F. Lavagnino.
The score is based on the amusing main title theme, a funny
whistled march (Tr. 1), resumed in Tr. 2, Tr. 3, Tr. 16 and
in the Finale (Tr. 22).
Lavagnino has written suspense and mystery music for the most
dramatic and action scenes of the movie (Tr. 4, Tr. 5, Tr.
7, Tr. 9, Tr. 10, Tr. 12, Tr. 14, Tr. 17, Tr. 18, Tr. 20),
a delicate and nostalgic love theme for violin and trumpet
(Tr. 6) and several dances for the scenes in the fort (Tr.
8, Tr. 11, Tr. 15, Tr. 19).
This double CD set with two hours of music from the Italian
Silver Age wants to be a sincere tribute to the inimitable
Franco Franchi and Ciccio Ingrassia, protagonists of an irrecoverable
season of the Italian Silver Age, for the joy of all Italian
comedy and western movie fans. |
