description & story

After the Bermudas OST trilogy Digitmovies continues to explore the beauty and the dangers of the sea with this complete and full stereo CD release of the OST by Stelvio Cipriani for the movie Tentacoli directed and produced in 1977 by Ovidio G. Assonitis and starring the Hollywood celebrities Shelley Winters, John Huston, Henry Fonda as well as Bo Hopkins, Cesare Danova, Delia Boccardo, Enzo Bottesini, Franco Diogene, Wolfango Soldati, Sherry Buchanan, Claude Akins, Alan Boyd, Marco Fiorini, Helena Mäkelä.

A giant octopus spreads terror over Solana Beach, California.
When some bathers have been killed, the scientist oceanographer Willy Gleason together with his friend Mark tries to kill the monster, but only at the end with the help of two killer whales the octopus will finally be killed.

Prolific Stelvio Cipriani has composed and conducted the background music where a cheerful orchestral theme with pop flavour, written for the boys having fun at the sea, is introduced in Tr. 1 (reprised in Tr. 3).
Attractive atmospheres evoke the wonderful sea dimension (Tr. 2, Tr. 4, Tr. 6, Tr. 8, Tr. 10, Tr. 13) and there is also dramatic and rhythmic music for the final scene of the movie (Tr. 7) which the author has often used with different instrumentation in some of his famous OSTs for police movies.
For this our CD we could use the first generation stereo master tapes of the original recording session which gave us the chance to discover - besides the 38 minutes assembled for the album in those days - about 16 minutes of unreleased material with alternate takes of the album versions.
Also thanks to our Cinevox Record friends we could include two really very rare tracks:
The demos (more than seven minutes) realized by M° Cipriani when in the early stages the music publisher had to be Bixio C.e.m.s.a. but then for various reasons the matter was carried forward by C.A.M.:
A suspenseful rhythmic theme with attractive electronic effects (Tr. 20) and the alternate version (Tr. 21) with a definite police movie flavour as only Stelvio Cipriani is able to do.
