| description |
GDM Music is glad to present the CD with score
by Ennio Morricone from Pier Paolo Pasolini's Uccellacci e uccellini,
released in 1966 and starring Totò (in one of his latest
roles) and Ninetto Davoli.
This CD is possible thanks the fact tha an original album mock-up
was found in the Rca Archives and never commercially issued
at that time in the promotional series SP.
Ennio Morricone has composed few, but functional original music,
considering that in the movie variations of Mozart's The magic
flute are largely used.
The main titles (here in the rare stereo mix) are performed
by Domenico Modugno with the old times storytellers, where the
artistic cast and the technical crew are mentioned by name with
an ancient flavour instrumentation.
The short, but intense score is based on contemporary style
themes (Aforismi, Teatrino all'aperto 1, Teatrino all'aperto
2), mystical/epic music (Nidi di rondine), '60s dancefloor music
(Nidi di rondine).
Uccellacci e uccellini features now 12 tracks with two totally
inedit tracks for the first absolute time on record.
Cartoni animati made in 1997, a score without any doubt linked
to the Pasolini world really for the sonorities dominated
by instrumentations (for example mandolins) so dear to the
great director.
Cartoni animati, starring Fiorello (very noted Italian Tv
comedian) and realized by the brothers Franco and Sergio Citti,
unfortunately did not get a good distribution so to be a forgotten
work, but at least this CD wants be witness of the beautiful
music by M° Morricone, here in a constant equilibrium
between an extreme romanticism and popular atmospheres very
close the circus world.
Cartoni animati features 10 tracks.
The CD was prepared under the supervision of Ennio Morricone. |

Uccellacci e uccellini
Originally Uccellacci e Uccellini, The Hawks and the Sparrows
was adapted by director Pier Paolo Pasolini from his own novel.
Italian comedian Totò plays a dual role, as himself
and 12th century monk Brother Ciccillo.
In modern times, Toto and his son Ninetto Davoli come across
a talking crow who insists upon asking them where they're
going.
The answer, it turns out, is eight centuries into the past,
where Totò and Davoli become monks, employed by Francis
of Assisi to convert the birds of the world to Christianity.
Unfortunately, every sparrow that they win over to God is
devoured by a hawk.
Back in the present, Totò and Davoli face a similar
situation when their landlord threatens them with eviction.
After various and sundry misadventures, the two human protagonists,
growing weary of the philosophical crow's loquaciousness,
eat the bird and move on, prepared to face whatever life brings
them without the help of their feathered friend.
The symbolism in The Hawks and the Sparrows is so obvious
as to be funny, which was Pasolini's intention all along.
