| description |
insolent, irresistible and
wickedly effective
For what would be his last recording, the troublemaker Philippe
Nicaud offers up a new anthological work, of which the unequivocal
title is in itself a concentrate of the Man's life's philosophy.
The aptly named "C'ex" ollows directly in the footsteps
of cult album "Erotico... Nicaud", released 1 year
previous:
insolent, irresistible and wickedly effective.
The frenetically energetic music direction is signed Jean
Musy, harbouring an undeniable leaning towards Latin funk
and exotic jerk.
He deploys a farandole of diabolic instruments and epileptic
drums without moderation, which he sprinkles at his leisure
with booming brass and a fine example of a liberating Hammond
organ.
Encouraged by this rhythmic debauchery, foaming at the mouth
and at boiling point, he takes great pleasure in giving his
all.
With his inimitable voice he launches with gusto into a voice
over, enhanced by minimal lyrics.
Knowing the man's humour and finesse, we have to wait for
the crazy song's last beats to realise its full irony.
The B side has a wonderful surprise in store with the delicious
slow "Qu' est ce qu' il dit", a very personal reinterpretation
of the Sinatra classic "Strangers in the Night"
which here becomes the soundtrack to a delectable Nicaud style
man/woman dialogue.
A great record moment, reminiscent of the famous Guy Bedos/Sophie
Daumier duo in the track "La Drague".
Both songs seem to be the recipe of Philippe Nicauld's every
obsession, where his erotomanic, priapic character finally
surrenders and simply admits his impotency.
We would have liked to have heard more from this great man,
but in the end, we couldn't have dreamt of a more exquisite
musical testament. |
