description
Taken from the mythical Dance and Mood Music series by English library music label Chappell, this record from French composer Paul Piot is packed full with typically sixties grooves, totally pop atmospheres, and wonderfully mod sounds.
An incredible offering, that jumps out at you from the very first listen.
Through its 14 instrumentals together, Piot deploys a lush and classily sonorous prism:
where baroque pop, light bossa, nervous jerk, heady jazzbeat and ethereal female backing vocals join to form a wonderfully psychedelic and sunny saga, veritable deliciously kitsch and zesty soundtrack to an imaginary film where the greatest sixties fantasies brush shoulders.
The incredibly efficient orchestration leans ostentatiously towards soul and rhythm'n'blues, unleashing an army of guitars, bass, drums, Hammond organ, brass, flutes and other sitar to achieve its ends.
Cult, exhilarating and tonic, the work has every air of a permanent holiday, a sunny getaway in an open topped sports car.
It's surprising coherence for a library music piece commands respect, whilst giving a real impression of an album bursting with potential hits and sure-fire dancefloor smashes.
The greatest proof being the number of songs we find track-listed on the compilations ruling the international rare groove scene (Blow Up, Barry 7's Connectors).
Definitively one of the greatest references in Chappell's vast catalogue.
