Les Gottamou: Nino Ferrer / Bernard Estardy / Richard Hertel |
| |
| description |
Formed in 1966 by the two independents of
French pop, Bernard "Le Baron" Estardy and Nino
Ferrer, along with drummer Richard Hertel, the Les Gottamou
trio can be considered a French super-group, encapsulating
the full genius of the 2 men.
To minimal bass / drums / organ instrumentation, the two partners
and their metronomic drummer have a blast throwing themselves
head on into 3 epic jerks (the fabulous Jimmy McGriff cover
All About My Girl and the irresistible Gribouille, written
by Bernard Estardy) plus a broken blues track offering some
respite in the midst of this sheer explosion of pure energy.
Four proud and magnificent instruments swimming in superb
soul, funk and jazz colours, at the heart of which Ferrer's
bass drives relentlessly while Estardy's organ weaves a tapestry
of notes where the most beautiful mod fantasies dwell and
lose themselves.
This is a show of faultless perfection from the trio, offering
us a true love declaration with groove and black music at
its heart.
An essential EP which offers a glimpse at the vitality and
originality of the French rhythm 'n' blues scene at the end
of the 60s.
