| description |
After the recent reissue of Le Clan des Siciliens,
Vadim continues its exploration of the fruitful and exemplary
musical collaboration between Henri Verneuil and Ennio Morricone.
Two years following this stroke of genius, the two came face
to face again with a new masterpiece illustrating the epic clash
between thief Jean-Paul Belmondo and cop Omar Sharif.
Filmed in Greece, this anthological car-chase film benefits
once more from an outstanding soundtrack.
The main theme, powerful and nervous, is the track we can't
forget, while the array of other tracks prove once again the
talents of the Italian maestro.
Originally released as a coveted LP, today Vadim has uncovered
2 missing tracks from the album.
The first is variation on the main theme, a touch more pop,
warmed by subtle vocals and a lighter rhythm.
The b-side also revisits an existing track, the magnificent
Rodeo, entirely re-orchestrated by Bruno Nicolai, Morricone's
loyal orchestrator and himself the composer of a number of now
cult anthological scores and soundtracks.
This 7" invites you to discover 2 rarities that complete
and give a new perspective to a score that demands to be rediscovered
without delay. |

| story |
This French-made feature was based on a 1957
Hollywood "B" effort The Burglar.
Both films were inspired by the same David Goodis novel.
Gallic crime-flick icon Jean Paul Belmondo play a slick jewel
thief who steals a valuable emerald.
He is stalked by cop Omar Sharif, who when he catches up to
Belmondo reveals himself to be a fellow crook, interested
only in a piece of the action.
Diane Cannon plays the gun moll role created by Jayne Mansfield
in the 1957 film.
Burglars ends with a set-to in a Greek grain elevator, where
Sharif is smothered in a cascade of wheat a climax later borrowed
for the American crime thriller Witness.
Cast:
Jean-Paul Belmondo, Omar Sharif, Robert Hossein, Renato Salvatori,
Dyan Cannon, Nicole Calfan, José Luis de Villalonga
Director:
Henri Verneuil |
